It was all pomp and glamour as the Uganda Sports Press Association convened at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala to pay homage to the finest sports stars in the land from 2021 to 2022.
The gala was initially meant to happen on 16th September but was pushed back by a week because the association wanted to ensure they covered all the necessary details for the day.
The Uganda Rugby 7s team was voted Team of the Year 2022, owing to their heroics throughout the year.
The team hosted the 2022 Africa 7s at Kyadondo and went on to win the title. In the same year, Uganda made it to the Rugby Sevens World Cup, claiming the scalp of the elusive Germans in a bowl final, winning 19-12.
Uganda also participated in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth, famously holding Australia to a nervy 12-12 draw.

For the men, Philip Wokorach was hailed as the male rugby player of the year owing to spurring the National 7s team to a third Africa 7s title, showing out with the National 15s team in France for Africa Gold Cup, and his efforts in the Birmingham Commonwealth games and the Rugby 7s World Cup in Capetown.
