Entebbe-based Azteks Soccer Academy has extended a helping hand to two women’s football academies in Kampala.

The academy donated soccer balls and uniforms to Warrior Stars Soccer Academy in Kamwokya and Titans Soccer Academy in Katwe.

What Azteks says

Azteks Soccer Academy head coach Yosia Kidde said the academy is committed to helping girls develop through soccer.

“Our target is to inspire those academies that promote girls football,” he said.

“We have played a couple of tournaments and got a chance to interact with other girls teams, and we feel so much attachment to all those academies endeavoring to promote girls football.”

Kidde said the academy will continue to support women’s football in Uganda.

“We believe in giving back,” he said. “You don’t have to wait for someone rich or big team to help another. You can always share the smallest you have.”

Azteks Soccer Academy is also competing in the 2023 U14 girls’ Futsal League.

The academy finished the first round with excellent performance, winning all their six games played in the first round to top the log with 18 points, 6 more than second placed Habanomu.

Mission of Azteks

The academy is a girls’ soccer initiative providing a safe and inclusive community for girls to learn how to play soccer, develop a sense of belongingness, and to have fun with likeminded people.

It is a program under Wake up Ugandan Children’s Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization located in Kigungu, Entebbe with an aim of helping vulnerable children and young mothers through provision of education and engaging them in sports.

Azteks Soccer Academy believes in the power of sport for the greater good.

And they believe that football can be a tool to help bridge gaps, promote gender equality, promote mental health, eradicate discrimination, level the playing field, and build character/self-esteem amongst others.

Notable accomplishments

The academy has promoted nearly 25 girls in the last three years to the FUFA Women Super League Clubs, FUFA Women Elite League and National Regional Leagues.

Azteks has also supplied players to the Uganda Youth National Teams (U17 and U20) in addition to numerous placements at top secondary and high schools including Kawempe Muslim secondary school, Rines Secondary School and others.
