Following a dominant display and victory over Mozambique side Ferroviario, City Oilers are back challenging for a spot in the Basketball Africa League playoffs.
After three opening defeats to Al Ahly, SLAC, and Petro de Luanda, the Oilers returned with a 96-75 win on Friday and are now in contention to make it out of the Nile Conference.
The eight-time National Basketball League champions led the opening quarter 23-16 after particularly superb displays from Jimmy Enabu, James Justice Jr, and Germaine Roebuck Jr.
They then led with a 16-point difference (47-31) at halftime. Tonny Drileba, off the bench, came and produced his first three of the night.
Overall in the game, the Oilers were inspired by Justice Jr who led the way for Mandy Juruni’s side with 25 points.
Falando Jones and Roebuck Jr then added 24 and 23 points, respectively, for a blissful night.
Al Ahly and Petro de Luanda have already progressed. Each of Cape Town Tigers, SLAC, City Oilers, and Ferroviario have two spots to fight for, ahead of the BAL playoffs in Kigali, Rwanda.
