Two Ugandan players Leticia Awor and Hope Akello will not feature in the 3×3 Africa Beach games slated for Tunisia.
The pair does not fit the U-23 bracket that is required for the games and have thus jetted back in the country.
They have been replaced by Mary Amaniyo and Bridget Aber, with the pair already travelled to the North African country on Monday.
In a statement released by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association, they confirm the turn of events but clarify the organizers hadn’t initially specified the kind of age category needed for the tournament.
“On arrival in Tunisia the organizers of the games indicated that 3X3 basketball was to be participated in by players that fall in the U23 category, a feat that was never communicated prior to the preparations and the initial travel,” the statement partly states.
“This communication only came after the technical meeting which happened after the team’s arrival,” it added.
“Two of our players in Hope Akello and Leticia Awor do not qualify for this age category. After a series of consultations with the organizers of the games, we were given the green light to have the two players (ineligible) replaced.”
At the moment, the team in camp includes Bridget Aber, Mary Amaniyo, Shakirah Nanvubya and Agatha Kamwanda.
