In the aftermath of a painful season that ended in relegation, Wakiso Giants have parted ways with head coach Steven Bengo, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the once-ambitious side.

The decision comes after a dismal campaign in the Uganda Premier League that saw the Purple Sharks sink to the FUFA Big League.

With just 3 wins and 11 draws from 30 games, Wakiso Giants finished the season with a mere 20 points, far below expectations for a club that once dreamed of challenging for top honours.

Despite the setback, the club paid tribute to Bengo’s commitment and work ethic.

“We recognize and appreciate Coach Bengo’s dedication, passion, and tireless efforts during his tenure,” read part of the club’s statement.

Bengo, a former Uganda Cranes midfielder, took over the reigns at Wakiso Giants with bold ambitions, hoping to restore stability and identity to a side in transition.

But under increasingly difficult circumstances, including poor form and internal struggles, results proved elusive.

Following a comprehensive post-season review, the club leadership concluded that a change in direction was necessary. “We believe that a change in leadership is crucial for our rebuilding efforts and future success,” the club noted.

A search for a new head coach is already underway, with Wakiso Giants pledging to build a strong technical team capable of returning the club to the top flight.
