Bishop Stuart University has been suspended from the University Football League (UFL) for two years after fielding an ineligible player in a league match.

The suspension was confirmed by the UFL Appeals Committee following a ruling by the independent Disciplinary Committee.

According to UFL Rule 25, “A team that is found to have fielded a player impersonating another person in a league match shall be suspended from the league for a minimum of two seasons (that season and the next season).”

The suspension means that Bishop Stuart will be unable to participate in the UFL for the remainder of the 2023/24 season and the entire 2024/25 season.

Bishop Stuart was second in Group F with three points before the table standings were changed to reflect the suspension.

Kampala University has now topped the group with six points, while ISBAT University remains bottom with no points.

Following the confirmation of the suspension, Kampala University has become the first team to qualify for the knockout stage of this season’s UFL.

This is not the first time that a team has been suspended from the UFL for using an ineligible player.

Last season, Kyambogo University was kicked out of the semifinals after eliminating MUBS for using an ineligible player.
