The Black Pirates and Black Pearls lit up King’s Park, Bweyogerere, with a weekend of rugby brilliance, both lifting the 2025 Rujumba 7s titles after stunning performances.
For the Pirates, it was all about defending their crown. The Pirates edged Walukuba Barbarians 12-10 in a pulsating men’s final on Sunday, sealing back-to-back Rujumba titles and cementing their dominance on the circuit.
The Pirates started strong, cruising past Elgon Wolves 26-5 before thrashing the Jaguars 50-0 on Day One. Their sharp handling and relentless pace made them early favourites.
Day Two brought bigger tests. They survived a tense quarterfinal against rivals Heathens, holding on for a 22-19 win. In the semifinals, they overpowered Jinja Hippos 24-10 to set up a showdown with the fired-up Walukuba Barbarians.
The final had everything speed, power, and tension. Both sides scored two tries, but the Pirates’ extra conversion made the difference.
Walukuba pushed hard for a late comeback, yet the Pirates held firm to secure a dramatic 12-10 victory and their second straight Rujumba crown.
Black Pearls shine in Women’s final
The Black Pearls reclaimed their dominance, edging rivals Thunderbirds 15-10 in another intense final. Ironically, they had lost to the Thunderbirds 17-12 in the group stages but rose when it mattered most.
The Pearls beat Walukuba Titans 15-10 in the semifinals, while the Thunderbirds blanked the Avengers 12-0. In the final, the Pearls’ tactical discipline and quick counter-attacks proved decisive, earning them the women’s title.
The Rujumba 7s, were a success as celebrations erupted at King’s Park, black-and-white flags waved proudly alongside the Pearls’ banners, marking a double triumph and reaffirming the club’s status as Uganda’s sevens powerhouse.
