Brazil has officially entered the race to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, with Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) President Samir Xaud confirming the bid during a live interview on Sportv, Globo’s cable channel.
“I was at the Club World Cup, and the atmosphere was incredible,” Xaud said. “The clubs put on a show, the fans filled the stadiums, and even [FIFA President Gianni] Infantino was impressed. I told him directly: Brazil wants to host the 2029 Club World Cup. We have the infrastructure, and it would be great for Brazilian football. It’s the last year of my term, and I want to deliver this for Brazil.”
The bid comes during one of Brazil’s strongest periods in club football. Brazilian teams have won the last six Copa Libertadores titles: Flamengo (2019, 2022), Palmeiras (2020, 2021), Fluminense (2023), and Botafogo (2024).
At the recent FIFA Club World Cup, Brazil sent four teams; Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Palmeiras. Fluminense reached the semifinals before losing 0-2 to eventual champions Chelsea, with both goals scored by former Fluminense academy star Joao Pedro.
Palmeiras wonderkid Estevão, dubbed Brazil’s brightest talent since Neymar, scored against Chelsea in the quarterfinals before completing a high-profile move to the English club.
Debutants Botafogo also shocked the world by beating PSG 1-0, thanks to Igor Jesus, who has since signed for Nottingham Forest.
With world-class stadiums, modern facilities, and a passionate football culture, Brazil believes it is fully prepared to host.
If successful, the tournament would return to South America for the first time in decades, marking a milestone for Brazilian football.
“Brazilian football is living a golden moment,” Xaud said. “Hosting the Club World Cup would celebrate our success and inspire the next generation. We’re ready for 2029.”
If FIFA approves the bid, Brazil could once again become the heart of world football, uniting fans and champions in a carnival of the sport.
