Uganda Badminton seed one player Brian Kasirye is our star ⭐️ of the day. The 21 year old grew up in one of Uganda’s sports hubs, Nsambya.

This saw him try out football, volleyball, and boxing among others before settling for the racket and the shuttle.

While studying at St. Peters Primary School Nsambya, Kasiyre aged seven focused on badminton a sports discipline that had a home at Nsambya Sharing Hall.

Following enough practice, Kasirye participated in his first tournament, the Picfare schools’ competition, and lost in the semifinals of the U10.

“I cried because of the gifts and money winners would get. They used to give out scholastic materials and a cash prize based on one’s performance,” Kasirye recalled.

With more training, Badminton secured him a scholarship and it was the same case in secondary at Kakungulu Memorial, a school where he won much for them.

After dominating the local scene and winning a couple of regional and continental accolades, Kasirye represented Uganda at the World Junior Championships in Canada.

The Ndejje University student has also been at the Commonwealth Games twice on top of moving around the globe featuring in several international tournaments.

One might think it has been a smooth ride for Kasirye but being raised in a family having financial troubles, he had to improvise since he had no funds to pay a personal trainer.

A nearby internet cafe was the answer as he could do small jobs to raise money and pay Ush500 to watch badminton games.

This helped to improve his game considerably, giving his opponents a good run for their money.

Recently, in October 2023, Kasirye teamed up with Muzafaru Lubega to win gold in the men’s doubles of the Uganda International Series tournament at Lugogo.

This means more!
