Following the conclusion of their season, Soltilo Bright Stars FC head coach Asaph Mwebaze believes he has delivered as per the expectations in his first campaign at the club.

Mwebaze led the side to a ninth finish in the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League, which reflects an upgrade from the 2021/22 season’s 12th place.

Mwebaze also led the club to a semifinal finish in the 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

For the Uganda Cup competition, Bright Stars were dumped out by Vipers SC after a 4-1 aggregate defeat.

“We are proud because first of all, we haven’t struggled in the league this season,” said the coach following the 1-0 victory over Vipers in the second leg of the Uganda Cup on Tuesday, at Kavumba Recreation Grounds.

“And, being in the semi-finals of the Uganda Cup is no mean feat. It’s not every day that teams play the semi-finals,” he added.

“In the 25 years of this club’s existence, we have only been here twice so it’s something I am proud of and there’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

Bright Stars last played the final of the Uganda Cup in 2019, and then, they went all the way to the final, where they eventually lost to Proline FC after post-match penalties.
