Buddu become first defending champions to win Masaza Cup opener in five years

Kansai Plascon sponsored side Buddu beat Gomba 1-0 to become the first defending champions to win the opening game of Buganda Masaza Cup.

Ssingo was the defending champions to start the competition with a win in 2019 when they beaten Ssese 3-0.

Crispus Sseruwuge scored the lone goal of the game inside the last ten minutes of the game with a well taken technical long range shot.

In the game played at Kitovu Sports Arena, record champions Gomba started with a promising performance but Buddu Goalkeeper Marvin Ssebirungo was at his best to keep his team in the game.

In the second half the game remained balanced with both Goalkeepers Julius Ssenyonjo and Ssebirungo bossing in the game with Uganda Iconic saves.

In outfield players Nicholas Jungo was the most dominant player while captain Herbert Onen was the best player of the losing side.

The games was attended hugely by fans from all parts of Buganda including high profile personalities from all companies in partnerships with Buganda Masaza Cup.

Main sponsor Airtel was represented by Brand Manager Ali Balunywa who called other companies and Ugandans to embrace Masaza Cup. “As Airtel we are to continue excited to be commencing this partnership but more partners are still needed, also to other people I call everyone to embrace the competition.”

Plascon was represented by their Marketing Coordinator Benjamin Bicung who said; “As Plascon we are proud to be in partnership with Buddu and the entire competition, we are looking forward to see Buddu writing a new chapter by defending the Masaza cup title.”

The game was graced by Buganda Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga who was concerned by the less number of goals in the competition. “We have witnessed good football but the number of goals in this competition remains a concern, If we don’t have good numbers of goals the picture refuse to come out well”

The Buganda Masaza cup will continue with opening matches of other teams as 16 teams will be in action.
