Defending champions Buddu Football Club were pushed to the limit in a tense 1-1 draw against their fierce rivals, the Gomba Lions. The match, which took place on Sunday, August 17 at Kabulasoke PTC, showcased the competitive spirit of both teams.

Buddu FC took the lead in the first half with a goal from Dathan Mubiru, but Gomba managed to secure a late point with a stoppage-time penalty from Robert Ssewanyana. A controversial moment occurred when a penalty claim for Buddu FC was denied, sparking frustration among the team’s supporters.

Despite the draw, the result was a crucial one for both sides. For Buddu, it means they avoided a loss to their rivals, while Gomba celebrated the point that lifted them off the bottom of the group standings for the first time.

Elsewhere in the Bulange group, Busiro handed Busujju a 1-0 defeat, while Buluuli continued their impressive run with a 2-1 win over Ssese.

The Masengere group saw more movement, as Buwekula beat Mawokota 1-0 to get closer to a quarterfinal spot, thanks to Jimmy Kalema’s sixth goal of the season. Bugerere also defeated Kyadondo 3-2, moving into second place with 11 points and pushing Mawokota down to third.

In the Muganzirwazza group, Kooki pulled off a stunning 2-1 comeback win against Ssingo, ending the Tigers’ unbeaten streak and their long run of not conceding a goal. The only teams to remain unbeaten in the Masaza Cup are Kyaggwe and Bugerere.
