The Masaza Cup semifinals are set to feature a showdown between Buddu and their arch-rivals, Kyadondo. This marks Buddu’s 9th succesive semifinal appearance since 2015, while Kyadondo is returning to the stage for the first time since 2019.

Buddu secured their place in the semifinals by defeating Kabula 3-1 on aggregate. In the return leg, Masuud Kafumbe scored for Buddu, while Shafik Mukiibi netted for Kabula in a 1-1 draw at Kitovu Arena on 29 September 2024.

Buddu came into the contest with a 2 -0 advantage from the first leg which was played the previous weekend.

Kyadondo, on the other hand, dominated their quarterfinal clash against Busujju, winning both legs 1-0. Forward Dathan Mubiru scored the decisive early goal in the second leg to give Kyadondo a comfortable 2-0 lead on aggregate.

Busujju made several attempts to get back into the contest but Kyadondo goal keeper Jerome Nsubuga was equal to the task each time.

Second Semi-final: Kyaggwe vs Buweekula

In another exciting quarterfinal matchup, Kyaggwe avenged their defeat to Ssingo by eliminating them from the competition. Kyaggwe won the first leg 1-0 and drew 1-1 in the return leg at the Mityana Ssaza grounds to secure their place in the semifinals.

Kyaggwe’s journey to the semifinals is made even more impressive by the fact that coach Steven Mutono who guided them to their last semifinal appearance in 2016 only returned to the helm of the team this year.

Winger Julius Kato scored first for Kyaggwe and Ssingo tried to find a way back but Paul Kiradda’s goal was not enough for them.

Buweekula also qualified for the semifinals by defeating Mawokota 2-1 on aggregate. Buwekula midfielder Amour Munogera scored the crucial equalizer in the return leg, canceling out Osman Mayanja’s goal. Buweekula came into the tie with a 0-1 advantage from the first leg.

Munogera and Herbert Asiimwe are looking to win a second successive trophy having won it with Bulemeezi last year. Kyaggwe’s Ivan Kalyowa and goalkeeper Abdul Bagenda are also trying to achieve the same feat.

The semifinals will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the exact dates to be announced soon.
