Buffaloes Rugby Football Club won the Gulu Sevens on Sunday, beating Kabaka Coronation 7s champions Walukuba Barbarians 5-0 in a tense low score final at Pece Stadium. The Buffaloes had earlier crushed Rhinos 26-0 in the semifinals.

The final was attended by Acholi Paramount Chief Rwot David Onen Acana II, adding prestige to the event. Walukuba reached the decider after defeating Plascon Mongers in their semifinal.

In the bronze match, Rhinos edged Mongers 15-14 to recover from their heavy semifinal loss.

Defending men’s champions Heathens had a poor campaign, failing to reach the Main Cup after losing 12-10 to Kampani Eagles and drawing 5-5 with KOBs in the group stage.

In the women’s competition, Avengers claimed their first Gulu 7s title, coming from behind to beat Thunderbirds 14-10 in the final.

Avengers had beaten Walukuba Titans 12-7 in the semis, while Thunderbirds thrashed Black Pearls 36-12 to reach the final.

Walukuba Titans took women’s bronze with a 5-0 win over Black Pearls, having earlier drawn 0-0 with She Wolves in the quarters.

With Gulu Sevens done and dusted, there is going to be a rest weekend on 16 and 17th August as teams prepare for the Rujumba Sevens at the Kings Park Arena between 23rd and 24th August.
