The Gomba Ssaza Team has confirmed the termination of their contract with their Head coach, Simon Dungu, known as Dunga after three matches.
The statement released by Gomba Lions Communications, led by Resty Mbatidde Namugema, confirmed the dismissal of Simon Dungu from his position as team Head Coach and assistant Simon Gita takes over as his temporary replacement.
The letter, signed by the team’s Secretary, Derrick Nsubuga Luliibe, reads: ” Gomba Ssaza Team, Gomba Lions, has terminated the contract of coach Simon Dungu, aka Coach Dunga on mutual consent, ending the responsibilities previously assigned to him as the team’s head coach for 2025.
“Gomba Lions appreciate the time we spent with him, but the relationship has now ended.
“Currently, Simon Gita, the assistant coach, has been given temporary coaching responsibilities for the Team.
“The team management requests supporters to remain patient and calm as they work through the transition before announced the new coach.”
The decision was reached following the losses in the three opening games of 2025 tournament.
Gomba was defeated by Buddu 1-0 in the opening match of the campaign match, then lost to Ssese 1-0 in the second, and lastly lost to Busujju 2-1.
At this time, the Gomba Ssaza team is preparing to face Buluuli this Sunday, July 20, in a match to be played at Kabulasoke PTC.
Simon Dungu is one of the most successful coaches in the Buganda Masaza Cup, having led his team to multiple victories.
He previously led Gomba to victory in 2017 and recently led Buddu to win in 2024, before return to Gomba this season.
Simon Gita who replaces him on interim basis, was also his deputy while Dunga led Buddu to win Masaza Cup in 2024 beating Kyaggwe 1-0 in the final match.
