On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the army side’s development outfit climbed to the top of the Buganda Regional Football League with a 2-1 win over Synergy FC, capitalizing on Kira United’s 1-0 defeat of Buwambo.

League top scorer Derrick Talemwa scored both goals for Young Simba on their travel to Kayunga District at Ndeeba Primary School. He took his tally to 8 goals while lifting his side to 21 points from 10 games.

Although Young Simba is tied on points with Buwambo United, the Bombo-based side is leading the table due to their better head-to-head record over Buwambo United, a team which has a game in hand.

On the same day that marked the return of the Buganda Regional League for the year 2026, Buwambo United, who was on top on New Year’s Eve, was defeated by Kira United 1-0 with Collins Ssemanda scoring the goal.

With the top two already occupied, Simba SC/UWA FC also won their game with a convincing 2-0 win over Wobulenzi at Namulonge Playgrounds.

Their main strikers, Sam Ssemugugu and Robert Ssewanyana, were both on the scoresheet, with topflight dropout Ssemugugu reaching 6 goals to his name, sitting joint second with Muhammad Kasule of Masaka City.

Still in the chase for the top spot, Kajjansi United pulled off the biggest win with a 7-0 result against Kiboga United at Mwererwe Playground.
