Youngster Disan Mwebe scored a goal per game while helping St Mark’s School Kayunga reach the round of 16 of the Buganda Schools Boys’ football.
The boy with the clinical feet returned to action after missing their first game against Kawempe Muslim due to malaria. On his return, he scored against St Michael International School, helping his new school win 3-1.
The other goals came from Ivan Kiganda and Jimmy Kyagulanyi for St Mark, with Arthur Murungi netting for St Michael International.
In the other game, Mwebe again scored in a 2-0 win along with Jazil Makaayi to see St Mark School topping the group, denying Defending Champion Kawempe Muslim from reaching the knockout level.
The other team to reach the round of 16 was Greenlight Islamic Secondary School, who overcame last season’s shock when they failed to progress from the group stage last year.
With Greenlight reaching the knockout, Host Kawanda Secondary School was automatically sent to the sidelines to join the spectators.
Shockingly, Highways SS Kiganda, Maryland High School, Mengo SS, and Agro Link upset the odds and qualified for the next round as best losers, while Ndejje High School Lubugumu, and St Austine Wakiso went on to lead their groups E and F.
Meanwhile, giants like St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, Buddo SS, St Andrew Kaggwa Gombe, Kyadondo SS, and Standard High Zana also qualified for the round of 16 as the unseeded draws await on Friday morning at Kawanda SS.
