In the Buganda Schools Boys football championship, Salam Owen’s iconic double flashy save was the highlight as St Mark School Kayunga opened their account with a goalless draw against last year’s winners, Kawempe Muslims.
Under the stewardship of Coach Felix Ssebuuza, the debutant was a stalwart despite lacking clinical instincts in front of goal during either half of the game played at Kawempe Muslim School’s ground under wet weather.
With St Mark School Kayunga getting the most chances of the game, Kawempe Muslim School got the biggest chance, though they were denied by Goalkeeper Salam Owen, who pulled off double saves from either post in the first half.
The game opened Group H, which had a second game at the same venue that saw another debutant, St Michael International School, beating St Miriam High School 1-0 with the goal being scored by Charles Ssebuuma in the middle of the second half.
After other games of Group A, Kawempe Muslims returned to action for their second game but again struggled to a 1-1 draw with St Miriam.
St Miriam led the game at half time through Kelvis Ssenyange, but through a questionable penalty, the defending champions equalized with Ramathan Ssali converting the spot kick.
In Group A at Kawempe Muslim School ground, Our Lady of Africa School Mukono Campos drew 0-0 with Vienah High School, while St Andrew Kaggwa Gombe beat Agro Link Academy 2-1.
