Bugema University has officially been given the green light to compete in the University Football League (UFL) semifinals after the league’s disciplinary committee ruled in their favour.
The decision comes after investigations determined that Muteesa I Royal University had no valid case against Bugema regarding their quarterfinal clash, which ended prematurely due to security concerns.
The quarterfinal battle between Bugema and Muteesa I Royal was a tightly contested affair. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Masaka, Bugema entered the return leg at home needing only a goalless draw to advance on away goals.
They achieved just that, holding Muteesa to a 0-0 stalemate before the match was abruptly halted. Despite the premature ending, the disciplinary committee upheld Bugema’s qualification, clearing them to proceed to the semifinals.
With the ruling finalized, Bugema will now shift their focus to a tough semifinal showdown against Uganda Martyrs University (UMU). The first leg is set for Tuesday, April 8th, in Nkozi, before the return leg in Bugema on April 15th.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal clash will see Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) host St. Lawrence University (SLAU) in the first leg on April 3rd in Mbale, with the return fixture scheduled for April 10th at Kavule.
