Bugema University coach Medhi Nyanzi was not entirely happy with his team’s performance despite thrashing University of Kisubi (Unik) 5-0 in the University Football league on Sunday at home.

Nyanzi felt that Bugema missed too many scoring chances and that this is an area they need to improve on before their next games.

“We had chances to score more than five goals but we failed to utilize the many chances we created. We need to try and improve on that area. At some point the players relaxed but we shall try to address that,” Nyanzi stated.

However, Nyanzi is confident that Bugema can make it to the knockout stage.

“When I look at our team, I don’t think we can fail to go past the group stages. Even this season we have to qualify,” Nyanzi added.

Isaac Ssenyunja scored a brace before Innocent Musuk, Sulaiman Ssentongo, and Swalaf Ssebbaale added the other goals for Bugema.

The victory saw Bugema move to six points in Group A and into second position. Uganda Martyrs are top in the group with nine points, while Kabale is third with three points and Unik is bottom with no point.

Bugema’s Ssebbaale revealed that their 3-1 loss to Uganda Martyrs in their opening game was a turning point for their performances.

“Eversince we lost the opening game against Uganda Martyrs. We managed to sit down and rectify our mistakes. We knew that in our next games we have to score more goals which we have tried to do,” he noted.

“As a player, when I live up to task in the field, it improves on my performance. We are going to face Unik again next week, but I believe we shall still defeat them.”

The league will resume on today (Monday 16, October 2023) when UCU hosts KIU in Mukono.
