As the 2024–2025 FUFA Big League season reaches its final stretch, the battles for promotion and survival are intensifying. Match Day 28, completed on Sunday, June 8, 2025, witnessed thrilling action across Uganda, with 17 goals scored in seven matches.
- Gaddafi thrash relegated Booma
In Masindi, Gaddafi FC made full use of a numerical advantage to dispatch already-relegated Booma FC 4-0 at Masindi Municipal Stadium.
Booma, who started the game with only seven players, saw two more join after halftime but couldn’t withstand Gaddafi’s relentless attack.
Ronald Bithum Nsumbiano netted a brace, while Charles Batiibwe Okello and Davis Kasirye added a goal each. The win moves Gaddafi to 46 points, just three behind table leaders Buhimba Saints United.
- Buhimba Saints’ promotion party put on hold
Elsewhere, Buhimba Saints United missed a chance to seal automatic promotion after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Kaaro Karungi at Kyamate Ground.
Martin Philip Opolot gave Buhimba an early lead with a well-placed free kick in the 6th minute, but Clinton Kamugisha’s stoppage-time penalty earned a crucial point for the hosts.
Despite the disappointment, Buhimba remain unbeaten in 12 matches and lead the standings with 49 points.
They need four points from their final two fixtures to guarantee promotion.
Kaaro Karungi, meanwhile, ended a run of three consecutive losses and now sit ninth with 31 points, just one point above the relegation zone.
- Blacks Power bounce back with big win
In Lira, Blacks Power produced a stunning 5-0 victory over Ntugasaze to reignite their promotion hopes.
Baker Buyala starred with a hat-trick, while Michael Siwu and Paul Oonyu also got on the scoresheet.
The win propels Blacks Power into fourth place with 45 points, just one behind third-placed Gaddafi. A critical clash between the two sides looms next weekend in Entebbe.
Elsewhere, in Eastern Uganda, Kataka FC completed a season double over MYDA with a narrow 1-0 win at Mbale City Stadium, thanks to Usama Khayemba’s early strike.
Kataka now have 36 points, while MYDA remain precariously close to the relegation zone in 11th place with 29 points.
Arua Hill and Busoga United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Pece Stadium in Gulu, while Kiyinda Boys and Onduparaka also drew 1-1 at Barthelem Playground.
On Saturday, Kigezi HomeBoyz edged Paidha Black Angels 1-0 in Kabale through Joseph Sseremba’s 41st-minute goal.
Title race and survival battle continue
With Buhimba Saints United (49 pts), Calvary (48 pts), Gaddafi (46 pts) and Blacks Power (45 pts) all still in the hunt, the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League promises an exciting finale. Meanwhile, the fight to avoid relegation remains fierce at the bottom.
