Buhimba United Saints underlined their title credentials with a gritty 2-1 away victory over rivals Blacks Power in a continuation fixture held Monday morning at the UTC playground in Lira City.

The win not only earned Buhimba three vital points but also opened up a commanding six-point lead at the summit of the table.

The match resumed from the 25th minute after being halted in the 24th minute due to torrential rains that flooded the pitch during the original fixture. When action resumed, it was the visitors who showed intent and composure.

Edson Agondeze broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, giving Buhimba a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Saints doubled their advantage midway through the second half when Martin Opolot netted the second in the 67th minute, putting the visitors in firm control.

Despite a late push from the home side, Blacks Power could only muster a consolation goal through Paul Oonyu in stoppage time.

The match was also marred by a frightening incident in the 28th minute when Blacks Power striker Baker Buyala suffered a chest injury after colliding with the goal post. He was immediately attended to and substituted.

With the win, Buhimba now sits comfortably at the top of the table with 48 points, six ahead of second-placed Blacks Power as the race tightens heading into the final stretch of the season.

Elsewhere, Busoga United humbled Gadaffi 3-1 at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru. Yoweri Mutenza opened scoring with a 6th-minute penalty followed by goals from John Asiimwe and Amos Kirya. Veteran forward Frank Kalanda netted Gadaffi’s lone goal, his first of the season.

Kataka secured a narrow 1-0 win over Paidha Black Angels thanks to an early third-minute goal by Ali Sentamu at the Mbale City Stadium.

In Gulu, Arua Hill, coached by the experienced Allan Kabonge, edged Ntungasaze 1-0 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium.

A ruthless Onduparaka put four past Kaaro Karungi without reply in Ntungamo while MYDA cruised to a 3-0 away victory over Booma in Masindi.

On Saturday, Calvary grabbed a narrow 1-0 win over Kigezi Home Boyz in Kabale, with Lawrence Olaboro’s goal proving decisive.

Olaboro now shares the top scorer’s slot with Ntungasaze’s Lawrence Kambugu, both tied at 12 goals, closely followed by Kiyinda Boys’ Ambrose Kigozi with 11.
