Jinja-based BUL FC has an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League table to seven points when they travel to Wankulukuku Stadium to face Express FC on Tuesday.
Currently sitting atop the standings with 24 points, four ahead of second-placed Vipers SC, BUL FC is eager to capitalize on their impressive form and further solidify their position at the league summit.
The return of coach Abbey Kikomeko, who served a 2-match suspension, will boost BUL FC’s morale and tactical acumen. Kikomeko, acknowledging the challenge ahead, remains confident in his team’s ability to secure a positive result.
“Express beat us last season home and away, and we are facing them this time when they are wounded after losing their last game against URA,” Kikomeko stated.
“So, this is going to be a tough game but we are prepared, the boys are in a high gear and ready for the game. Even though Express is at home, we shall put in whatever is needed to get the maximum points from Wankulukuku.”
BUL striker Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte echoed Kikomeko’s sentiments, emphasizing the team’s focus on the present rather than dwelling on past results.
“We are not looking at the results we had against Express last season. What we are focusing on is how we are going to approach this game,” noted Ssekamatte.
“There is so much at stake but we as players agreed to take every game at a time. With the training we have had in preparation for this match, we are going for maximum points.”
Despite BUL FC’s recent dominance in the league, Express FC holds an impressive head-to-head record, having won the last five encounters between the two sides.
Express lost to 2-1 to URA in their previous game while BUL defeated Wakiso Giants 3-0.
What the coaches and players said
Express FC coach James Odoch expressed his determination to maintain their winning record against BUL FC and secure victory on home turf.
“We have rectified our mistakes and our focus is to try and win the game since we are at home. The players are determined to perform at their best. BUL is on form but we also have a good record against them and we want to keep it,” noted Odoch.
Midfielder Ramsey Kawooya echoed the sentiments of his coach, emphasizing the team’s renewed motivation following their recent setbacks.
“Every one is fresh and ready for the game since we failed to live up to task in our previous game. But against BUL the team is motivated and ready to deliver,” noted Kawooya.
