BUL FC stretched their lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League table to five points after defeating SC Villa 2-1 at Wankulukuku Stadium on Tuesday.
The victory was BUL’s fifth of the season, and they now have 15 points, while Villa are ninth with five points.
BUL took the lead in the 35th minute through George Kasonko, who slotted the ball past Villa goalkeeper Martin Ssekaggya from a corner kick.
David Otti doubled the lead two minutes later with a header.
Villa made two substitutions in the second half, bringing on Ronald Ssekiganda and Charles Lwanga in place of Misi Semugera and Ivan Bogere.
This seemed to have the desired effect, as Villa dominated possession and pulled a goal back through Umar Lutalo in the 64th minute.
However, BUL remained solid in defense and held on for the victory.
What the coaches said
BUL coach Abbey Kikomeko said after the match that he was not surprised by his team’s victory.
“We prepared for this victory,” Kikomeko said.
“We knew Villa would come out wholeheartedly, but we were ready to battle them. We want to maintain our performance even in the next games.”
Villa midfielder Lutalo said that his team’s first-half errors cost them the match.
“In the first half, we made errors, and it was crucial to bounce back with greater strength in the second half to secure the necessary points,” Lutalo said.
“It was a challenging first half, but our determination to level the score prevailed. I’m pleased to have scored my second goal in this match, but it wasn’t sufficient for the team.”
” I want to express my gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support. We are committed to making a strong comeback in the next game.”
