Ssaza Buluuli were forced to settle for a point after a thrilling 1-1 draw against visitors Bugerere at Kakooge Play Ground on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
In a match that saw both sides create numerous opportunities, it was Buluuli who struck first with a blistering start. Robert Ssewanyana netted his fourth goal of the campaign inside the opening 30 seconds, giving the hosts a dream start.
However, Bugerere, who struggled to find their rhythm in the early stages, grew into the game and dominated possession after the 20-minute mark. The impressive Dan Kazibwe and Sulaiman Ssentongo pulled the strings in midfield, causing constant problems for the Buluuli defense.
The visitors’ persistence paid off just two minutes into the second half when substitute Charles Musisi found the back of the net to level the score. The goal sparked a frantic finish, with both teams creating several chances to win the game.
Despite creating numerous opportunities, Bugerere were unable to find a winner, with Buluuli goalkeeper Isaac Opolot producing several impressive saves to keep his side in the game.
What they said
After the match, Buluuli coach Anthony Bongole expressed his disappointment with the result blaming poor preparations but praised his team’s fighting spirit. Bugerere assistant coach Yusuf Kinene was pleased with his side’s performance and highlighted the improved quality of refereeing compared to the first round.
Bugerere’s Dan Kazibwe, expressed his disappointment despite being named man of the match. While the individual accolade was a highlight, the team’s failure to secure a crucial three points was a bitter pill to swallow.
“Winning the man of the match award is an honor, but our primary objective was to collect all three points,” Kazibwe stated. “It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t achieve that, but we are determined to rectify the situation in our next match.”
