Busitema University has a chance to top Group D of the University Football League when they take on Kampala International University (KIU) away in Lukuli, Makindye this Sunday.
The Eastern Region-based institution is currently second in the group with five points, five below leaders Uganda Christian University (UCU) who have played one game more. KIU is third with four points, while Kumi is bottom with three points.
Busitema, who also has a negative goal difference (-5), needs to win against both KIU and UCU with a bigger goal margin to have a chance of making it to the quarterfinals.
Their coach, Abdulnoor Musisi, believes that although the chances are slim, anything is possible in football.
“We saw the draw between UCU and Kumi, and it has given us a little hope. It means we have something to play for going into the game against KIU. The goal difference is huge, but it is not impossible,” Musisi said.
“If UCU can score seven goals in one game, then we can also do the same. It’s a very slim chance, almost impossible, but one we are going to try and see. That is what makes football special and exciting.”
“But first, we have to get maximum points against KIU. They are a strong team, but we have more to play for than them, and so we have to play harder than them,” Musisi added.
However, KIU coach Geoffrey Akabwai has targeted finishing second in the table and, if possible, qualifying to the knockout stage as one of the best second-placed teams.
“It’s not over yet for us. We need to win our two remaining games, and then we wait and see. If we don’t win, then we don’t stand a chance. But if we win, you never know what will happen elsewhere,” Akabwai said.
