It has been a while since Buwambo United was last at the top of Buganda Region football clubs. Still, a dominant 3-0 win over Kiboga United and a blessing in disguise that saw Young Simba beat Simba/UWA on Sunday, March 15, helped them regain the spot.

Following the mix-up of the results for Uganda Wildlife Authority in recent fixtures, Buwambo returned to the top for the first time since January.

Team top scorer Enock Ssekatawa found his sixth goal of the season. Defender and new signing Augustin Lubega scored his first goal for the club, and Benon Viany Kigenyi added the other goal.

In the match played at Kiboga Ssaza ground, electric winger Alex Mutebi assisted twice, while Innocent Mensor Ongurucho assisted the other goal that saw Buwambo United leading the table again with 49 points, two ahead of Uganda Wildlife Authority/Simba FC.

The loop was boosted by the running out of form that saw the eventual leaders dropping more points. At Bombo Military Barracks, host Young Simba defeated them 1-0 with the league’s top scorer, Derrick Talemwa, taking his tally to 18 goals in as many games, sitting five goals clear of other contenders in Sam Ssemugugu of Simba FC and Muhammad Kasule of Masaka City.

Simba, who had opened a four-point gap at the end of the first round in mid-February, has only won once, 3-1 over Manyangwa at Namulonge, while they have now lost twice, having started the round with a 3-1 loss to Ug Sports Arena in Kayunga.

Now, the promotion contest is heating up, with 4 points separating the top three teams. Young Simba, in third position, is tallying 38 points. After matchday 18, there are still 12 fixtures to determine the league winner, who will face the Kampala Regional League champion for a slot in the FUFA Big League.

On the other side of the table, Kiboga United again dropped points. Buikwe Red Stars continued their poor form with a 3-0 loss to UG Sports Arena, while Super Eagles Lugongwe were eliminated from the league by the league organizers due to poor conduct.

Between the relegation zone and survival, Nantabulirwa was at rest as Manyangwa FC pushed them below the line with a 2-0 win over Wobulenzi United, while Synergy FC suffered a 3-0 loss to Kira United.

With Kiboga United living far behind with a deficit of 10 points in 14th position, Nantabulirwa FC is 13th with 18 points, tied with Synergy in 12th place, and two points behind Manyangwa FC, who are 11th on the log.
