  • Ghana 2-0 Uganda

Girls

  • Uganda 1-0 South Africa

The third edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship kicked off with high drama and contrasting fortunes for Uganda’s youth teams at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday.

The opening day’s spotlight was undeniably stolen by Ghana’s U-15 boys team and more specifically by their electrifying left winger, John Andor.

On home soil and under the watchful eyes of an eager crowd, Andor delivered a performance worthy of headlines, netting both goals in Ghana’s impressive 2-0 victory over Uganda.

It didn’t take long for Ghana to show their intent. Just three minutes into the game, Andor made his mark with a dazzling solo run, breezing past defenders before slotting in at the near post.

The early goal settled the hosts and set the tone for the rest of the match, with Ghana dictating play and keeping Uganda on the back foot.

Despite Uganda’s goalkeeper standing tall with a series of fine saves, Ghana’s persistence finally broke through again in the second half.

A well-delivered corner kick found Rockson Adjei, whose shot was parried into the path of Andor. The winger calmly buried the rebound, completing his brace and sealing all three points for the Black Cormets in their tournament debut.

While Uganda’s boys were left to regroup after a tough opening loss, their female counterparts flipped the script in sensational fashion. In what many are calling the shock of the tournament’s opening day, Uganda’s U-15 girls team stunned defending champions South Africa.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Grace Kawiino, who delivered the game’s decisive moment with a goal that silenced the favourites and lit up the Ugandan bench.

It was a hard-fought win that not only disrupted the tournament’s expected order but also injected belief and momentum into Uganda’s campaign.
