CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round
- Nairobi United 1-1 NEC FC (Aggregate 3-3)
National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) fought fiercely but exited the CAF Confederation Cup on away goals after a 1–1 draw with Nairobi United at a charged Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.
NEC arrived in Nairobi needing a win or a high-scoring draw after last week’s 2–2 stalemate in Kampala handed the Kenyan debutants two vital away goals.
The Ugandans started brightly. Midfielder Titus Ssematimba forced an early save and later headed narrowly over, while Ronald Innocent missed a clear chance on the break.
Their pressure paid off in the 26th minute when Charles Waibi drilled home from a throw-in, putting NEC ahead 3–2 on aggregate.
Innocent’s injury forced an early change, but NEC stayed in control through the first half. Nairobi United responded after the break with three quick substitutions that changed the game.
Fresh legs lifted the hosts, and in the 65th minute Duncan Oluoch poked in the equaliser to restore aggregate parity—and the crucial away-goal advantage.
NEC struck the woodwork and pushed hard in the closing stages, but Nairobi held firm. At the whistle, several home players collapsed in relief as NEC’s brave run ended 3–3 on aggregate.
Nairobi United, last season’s Mozart Bet Cup winners, move on to face either Sudan’s Al Ahli Wad Madani or Tunisia’s Étoile du Sahel in the second preliminary round.
