In their maiden continental engagements, BUL and Future FC played out to a barren stalemate in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
At the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday, the Oil Manufacturers did not do a lot wrong as they competed relatively well against the bogey Egyptians.
“Learning about our opponents is the most important aspect of this game,” BUL FC coach Alex Isabirye said to the media.
“Both of us were playing at this level for the first time and the result says that we are still alive and indeed we are.”
“They are a very difficult team, especially with the ball and I am pleased that we closed them down and did not concede.”
“Pressure is now on their side to try and ensure that we do not score and on the other hand, again look for goals.”
“We are going to Egypt to dig in, fight and compete to reach the next stage of the qualifiers,” Isabirye added.
Meanwhile, Future’s head coach, Mohamed AbdelKarim Ismail is extremely certain his troops will finish the business at home turf on Saturday.
“We had so many chances but we could not score. Away games are usually difficult in one way or another.”
“Our opponents did well in defense and were resilient enough, but I am looking forward to the second leg hopefully we shall do better,” he noted.
The aggregate victors will face the winner between Buffles du Borgou FC from Benin and Sierra Leone’s Kallon FC in the next round of the qualifiers.
