Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued tough disciplinary sanctions after chaotic scenes during the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.
Both the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), along with several players and officials, were punished for breaching CAF’s disciplinary code.
After reviewing incidents from the final, CAF’s Disciplinary Board cited unsporting behaviour, supporter misconduct and actions that damaged the image of the game as reasons for the penalties.
Senegal received the heaviest punishments. Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was banned for five CAF matches and fined USD 100,000 for conduct deemed against fair play and integrity.
Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two CAF matches after being found guilty of unsporting behaviour toward the referee.
The Senegalese federation also faced steep fines. FSF was fined USD 300,000 for supporter misconduct and another USD 300,000 for the behaviour of players and technical staff.
An additional USD 15,000 fine followed after five Senegal players were cautioned during the match.
Morocco also received sanctions. Defender Achraf Hakimi was handed a two match suspension, with one match suspended for a year, effectively placing him on probation.
Midfielder Ismaël Saibari was banned for three CAF matches and fined USD 100,000.
The Moroccan federation was fined USD 200,000 for inappropriate behaviour by ball boys, USD 100,000 after players and staff invaded the VAR area and obstructed the referee, and USD 15,000 for supporters using lasers inside the stadium.
CAF also dismissed a protest filed by Morocco alleging regulatory breaches by Senegal under Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations.
The Disciplinary Board ruled that the claims did not justify further action, bringing the matter to a close.
