Africa’s top football tournament is set for bigger rewards. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions will receive a record $10 million, up from $7 million in the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking in Rabat, Morocco, CAF President Patrice Motsepe revealed the figures following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat.
The prize increase marks a 43% rise and continues a trend of rapid growth, with the winners’ payout doubling since the 2021 Cameroon tournament, when it stood at $5 million.
The runners up will take home $4 million, while the two semi-finalists earn $2.5 million each.
CAF said the boost is aimed at enhancing the tournament’s competitiveness, global appeal, and value for participating teams.
“The increase reflects CAF’s commitment to elevating African football and rewarding excellence on the continent’s premier stage,” the governing body said.
The month-long tournament kicks off on 21 December 2025, with hosts Morocco facing Comoros in the opening match.
