Kampala Queens announced their arrival in style at the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, thrashing Eritrea’s Denden FC 7-0 at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday to claim their first win of the campaign.

Kamiyat Naigaga, Peace Muduwa, and Turist Lema each scored twice, while an own goal from Denden goalkeeper Rim Redie completed the rout.

Naigaga opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a brilliant solo finish, and Lema doubled the lead five minutes later after a perfect pass from Meadin Sahilu. Muduwa made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute with a thunderous strike.

The Queens dominated after the break, with Lema and Muduwa scoring early in the second half to make it 5-0. Naigaga grabbed her second, and Redie’s own goal sealed the emphatic win.

New signing Precious Phiri made her debut, while goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu Norah replaced the injured Daisy Nakaziro in the 66th minute.

The victory temporarily lifts Kampala Queens to the top of Group A with three points and a +6 goal difference.

Their semifinal hopes now depend on Wednesday’s clash between Denden FC and Kenya Police Bullets FC, with the Kenyan side still capable of overtaking them.

Kampala Queens must wait to see if they advance as one of the best second-placed teams or exit the tournament.
