CAF Women’s Champions League Women Zonal Qualifiers | 3rd Place Playoff

  • Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 Kampala Queens

Former Kampala Queens star Margret Kunihira turned heartbreaker on Tuesday, curling a brilliant first-half free kick to give Kenya Police Bullets a 1–0 win and deny her old club a podium finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.

The third-place playoff at Moi International Sports Complex was decided by that single moment.

In the 25th minute, Kunihira now a Crested Cranes forward and Bullets winger bent the ball beyond goalkeeper Gloria Namakula. She kept her celebration subdued, a quiet nod to her former teammates.

Kunihira played one season (2022/23) for Kampala Queens, helping them capture the Uganda Women’s Super League title before brief stops in Tanzania and this year, a move to Kenya Police Bullets alongside fellow Ugandans Zaina Namuleme and Desire Natooro Katisi.

The trio has strengthened the Kenyan champions, who also beat Kampala Queens 1–0 in the group stage.

While the Ugandan side heads home empty-handed, Kunihira’s strike capped a strong campaign for the Bullets and set the stage for final where Rwanda’s Rayon Sport lost 1-0 to Tanzania’s JKT Queens to only secure a CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

JKT’s only goal was scored by Winfrida Gerald as early as the 5th minute.

For Kampala Queens, the pain lingers, their former hero delivered the blow that ended their medal dreams.
