Kampala Queens’ hopes of reaching the CAF Women’s Champions League were crushed on Sunday after a painful penalty shootout loss to Rwanda’s Rayon Sport in the CECAFA Zonal Qualifier semifinal at Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani.
The tightly fought clash ended 0-0 after extra time, forcing penalties. Rayon Sport edged it 4-3, with goalkeeper Angeline “Pendo” Ndakimana the star of the night after denying Catherine Nagadya and Zaitun Namanga from the spot.
Rayon Sport advance to Tuesday’s final, where they will face either Kenya Police Bullets or Tanzania’s JKT Queens for the region’s single ticket to the continental showpiece.
Kampala Queens, left to reflect on missed chances and penalty misfortune, will play for third place against the loser of the other semifinal.
