For the first time ever, Uganda is set to host the President of the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), Dr. Adolphe Aremou Mansourou, a landmark moment for the country’s growing handball scene.

His visit, scheduled ahead of the much-anticipated 2025 International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy by Africa Zone V tournament, lifts Uganda’s rising stature in regional handball development.

Dr. Mansourou will attend the tournament as the Guest of Honour, a symbolic and strategic endorsement of Uganda’s commitment to nurturing the sport at both grassroots and national levels.

Organizers say his presence reflects international confidence in Uganda’s handball systems and growing influence across Africa.

The tournament, slated for May 6th to 10th, 2025, will be the first time Uganda hosts the IHF Africa Zone V Challenge Trophy.

It will gather youth (U17) and junior (U19) national teams from across East Africa including Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and hosts Uganda.

The Uganda Handball Federation, in partnership with the International Handball Federation, will oversee the event which focuses on nurturing young talent under the age of 19 and 17.

Matches will be held at two venues: the Old Kampala Arena will host the U17 games while the U19 competitions will unfold at St. Juliana Secondary School in Mayangwa.

As Uganda prepares to welcome the continent’s handball elite, Dr. Mansourou’s visit not only highlights the significance of the event.
