Calvary Football Club has surged to the summit of the 2024–2025 FUFA Big League standings following a dominant 3-0 win over Kaaro Karungi on Sunday, June 1st, at the Midigo Playground in Yumbe.

In a spirited display before their home crowd, Calvary’s attacking trio, Christopher Agotre, Simon Peter Odeke and Junior Emmanuel Ojok sealed the match with clinical goals that underscored their intent to earn promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

The victory sees Calvary reach 48 points from 26 games, placing them atop the table by goal difference, tied on points with second-placed Buhimba United Saints, who have played one match fewer. With just three matchdays remaining, Calvary’s fate is now firmly in their hands.

Meanwhile, Gaddafi SC tightened their grip on third place with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Arua Hill at the Works Playground in Entebbe.

Veteran striker Frank Kalanda broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute after coming off the bench, before Yasir Mugume doubled the lead just five minutes later, securing crucial points for the Entebbe-based side.

Elsewhere, MYDA edged past Blacks Power 1-0 in a tense match at Kongunga Playground in Bukedea.

The win, MYDA’s lifeline, lifts them out of the relegation zone to 11th with 29 points. Conversely, it marked a fourth straight defeat for Blacks Power who now sit 5th with 42 points, their promotion hopes rapidly fading.

In Arua, Onduparaka SC, affectionately known as the Caterpillars, climbed to 6th place with 37 points after a 2-1 win over Kigezi Home Boyz.

Quick-fire goals from Junior Andama and Dominic Abonga in the 32nd and 33rd minutes proved enough to secure victory at the Green Light Stadium.

However, not all fixtures went according to plan. The scheduled game between Ntugasaze and Booma was called off after Booma failed to make the trip to Mityana Ssaza Ground, a setback that may have further implications for the visitors’ already uncertain campaign.

Individually, Calvary’s Lawrence Olaboro and Ntugasaze’s Lawrence Kambugu are neck-and-neck in the golden boot race with both forwards tallying 12 goals apiece.

With the FUFA Big League inching towards its climax, with only three teams set to earn promotion and four destined for relegation to regional leagues, the competition is intensifying.
