Olympian Kirabo Namutebi broke her own national freestyle record again as she claimed a silver medal at the just concluded 15th CANA Africa Championships in Tunisia.
The swimmer shade off 41 microseconds to finish second behind South Africa’s Inge Weidemann who bagged gold thanks to 25:75 time.
Namutebi, who clocked 26:11 held on to beat Algeria’s Nesrine Medjahed by a microsecond who took home bronze.
“I am really happy for setting up a new national record and winning a medal for my country,” noted Namutebi after picking her medal adding that It Is always a pleasure representing her country.
Before the podium finish, Namutebi had earlier on finished in fifth place in the 50m breaststroke.
With other Ugandan swimmers in; Namutebi’s brother Tendo Mukalazi and Fadhil Saleh finishing outside the medal brackets, worries of coming back home empty handed shoot through the roof.
Mukalazi and Saleh finished 12th and 16th overall out of the 34 swimmers in the 50m freestyle respectively.
The two also competed in other events with Mukalazi going for the 50m breaststroke and Saleh participating in the 100m freestyle but their pursuit of winning a medal was in vain.
