Defender Elio Capradossi has joined the Uganda Cranes squad in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea.
Despite initially being left out of the provisional squad due to a flexor injury, the AC Cittadella player has now been called up, boosting Uganda’s defensive options.
Capradossi sustained his injury during Cittadella’s 2-0 loss to Modena, where he was forced off in the 27th minute and substituted by the 29th minute.
As a result, he missed two crucial club games before making his return to the matchday squad last weekend, remaining on the bench in Cittadella’s 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo.
Despite this limited game time, the 28-year-old was surprisingly called up and has now joined the Cranes camp in Egypt, indicating that he is fit and available for selection.
Capradosi made his Uganda debut last year against Botswana but has since missed crucial qualifiers against South Sudan (home and away), South Africa, and Congo.
His arrival in camp suggests he could feature in either of Uganda’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
The Cranes squad currently has 25 players, including goalkeepers Alionzi Nafian and Mutakubwa Joel, defenders Bwomono Elvis, Kizito Gavin, Bevis Mugabi, Toby Sibbick, Torach Rogers, Muleme Isaac, and midfielders Ronald Ssekiganda, Kenneth Semakula, Khalid Aucho, Enock Ssebagala, Abdul Karim Watambala, and Allan Okello.
Also present in camp are Travis Mutyaba (FC Girondins de Bordeaux), Omedi Denis, Jude Ssemugabi, Steven Mukwala, Muhammad Shaban, Calvin Kabuye, Patrick Kakande, Mato Rogers, Aziizi Kayondo, and Hakim Kiwanuka.
Uganda will face Mozambique on Thursday at Cairo International Stadium before returning home to host Guinea on Tuesday at Mandela National Stadium.
These fixtures are crucial for the Cranes’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign and Capradosi’s return adds valuable experience and depth to the squad.
