Uganda Cranes defender Elio Capradossi has signed a two-year contract with Romanian top-flight club Universitatea Cluj.

The 29-year-old joins as a free agent after leaving Italian Serie B side AS Cittadella at the end of last season.

Capradossi’s move comes at a pivotal time as he looks to regain form and build on his recent rise with the Uganda national team.

Cluj, who finished fourth in Liga I last season, are preparing for the UEFA Conference League qualifiers and see Capradossi as a key addition to their defense.

Born in Entebbe to an Italian father and Congolese mother, Capradossi moved to Italy as a child and developed through AS Roma’s academy.

Though he never established himself in Roma’s first team, he gained valuable experience with stints at Bari, Spezia, SPAL, Cagliari, and Cittadella.

In 2024, Capradossi pledged allegiance to Uganda and made his Cranes debut in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Botswana, followed by another strong performance against Algeria. His calm, experienced presence has since added depth to Uganda’s defense.

At Universitatea Cluj, Capradossi joins a club rich in tradition and ambition. Based in Cluj-Napoca, “U” Cluj are among Romania’s most historic teams.

Their top-four finish secured a return to European competition, an opportunity Capradossi is eager to embrace.

“Joining Cluj is a big step,” said a source close to the player. “He’s motivated to compete at a high level and help the club achieve its goals.”
