Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club secured a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing CAVB Zone V Championship after a hard-fought 3-1 (25-16, 26-28, 25-22, 25-20) victory over Uganda’s Sport-S at the packed Lugogo Indoor Arena.
REG started strong, dominating the first set with powerful middle blocking, which Sport-S struggled to counter. The Rwandan side comfortably took the set 25-16.
The second set saw a much closer contest. Sport S bounced back and initially took the lead, but REG kept the pressure on, levelling the score multiple times.

A tense exchange of points followed, with ties at 22-all, 23-all, and 24-all. Despite REG’s efforts to close it out, Sport-S edged ahead to claim the set 28-26.

With both teams tied at one set apiece, the third set remained competitive. REG made fewer errors and took control in the final moments, leading 21-20 before securing a 25-22 win.
Heading into the fourth set with momentum, REG capitalized on Sport S’s receiving errors.
Though Sport-S started strong, communication breakdowns proved costly. REG took advantage, sealing the set 25-20 and securing a 3-1 victory.
With this win, REG finished the group stage undefeated, maintaining Rwanda’s dominance over Ugandan teams in the competition.
They now advance to the quarterfinals set for today.
