Central Uganda Rugby Association (CURA) ushered in a new chapter on Saturday as members gathered at Kyadondo Rugby Club to elect fresh leadership ahead of the 2026 season.
The Annual General Meeting, held on January 10 and starting at 10 a.m., brought together club representatives and officials from the Uganda Rugby Union (URU). Among those in attendance were URU CEO Isaac Lutwama and upcountry EXCOM member Duncan, highlighting the importance of the meeting.
Interim chairman Adam Kabalega opened proceedings, guiding members through the previous minutes and a review of CURA’s 2025 activities.
The session allowed members to reflect on progress made while acknowledging areas that need more attention as rugby continues to grow in the region.
Discussion then turned to the 2026 championship. Members unanimously agreed to retain the festival format used last season, praising it for keeping costs manageable while giving more teams a chance to compete.
The meeting also resolved to convene a Special General Meeting later in the year to amend the CURA constitution, once URU completes its own constitutional review. The move aims to keep CURA aligned with national structures while strengthening its internal governance.
Elections were conducted by URU Assistant Technical Officer Vian Matsiko, who oversaw a smooth and transparent process. Fahad Matovu emerged as the new Chairman of the Central Uganda Rugby Association.
He will serve alongside Vice Chairperson (Commercial) Cynthia Nabukeera, Treasurer Adam Kabalega, and Secretary Hilda Khangongo.
The Executive Committee is completed by Pius Mpoza, Women’s Representative Damalie Namulondo, and Age Grade Representative Jude Mandali.
In his acceptance remarks, Matovu pledged to serve with commitment and teamwork, stressing the need for a shared vision to grow and strengthen rugby across Central Uganda.
The AGM ended on a note of unity and optimism. With new leadership in place and clear decisions guiding the year ahead, CURA now shifts focus to delivering a competitive and well-run 2026 season, driven by renewed energy and purpose.
