In a gripping contest at the heart of the cricket season, the Ceylon Lions clinched a convincing 66-run win over Wanderers CC in a high-scoring affair dominated by disciplined bowling and standout individual performances at the Kamengo Cricket Oval on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Ceylon Lions posted an imposing 251 in 38.1 overs, thanks largely to a classy 84-run knock by opener Charles Musemeza.

Playing with patience and precision, Musemeza struck 11 boundaries in his 78-ball innings, setting a solid foundation after an early loss of Obuya Robinson (3).

He was well-supported by Ankit Patel, who chipped in with a measured 48, including three sixes, while Ruwan Jayaratne (22) and skipper Juma Miyaji (17) added crucial momentum during the middle overs.

Lower-order cameos from Frank Nsubuga (17) and Omara Ronald (11) ensured the Lions crossed the 250 mark despite a late flurry of wickets.

Ivan Kakande led the Wanderers bowling attack with a superb spell, claiming 4 for 39 in his 9 overs. Abdul Basit Habib also impressed with 2 wickets, including the key dismissal of Brighton Muganzi to wrap up the innings.

In the chase, Wanderers CC began brightly, with Perry Wazombe lighting up the chase with a blistering 67 off 46 balls, hammering six fours and five sixes. He and Jaffer Ochaya (17) put on a solid 67-run opening stand, but once Wazombe fell to Jonathan Kiiza, the innings began to unravel.

Abdul Basit Habib stood firm with a resilient 59, but lacked sustained support as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. From 155 for 4, the Wanderers lost four wickets for just 30 runs, crumbling to 185 for 8 by the 33rd over.

Frank Nsubuga’s all-round brilliance came to the fore as he took 2 for 36 and held a sharp catch to dismiss Habib. Jonathan Kiiza also grabbed two key scalps, while Brighton Muganzi and Ruwan Jayaratne chipped in with one apiece, the former delivering an astonishing spell with an economy of just 0.50.

It was a complete performance from Ceylon Lions, strong top-order batting, aggressive finishing, and a clinical bowling unit that kept Wanderers under constant pressure. Captain Juma Miyaji led from the front with tight lines and clever field placements, guiding his side to a well-earned 66-run win.

Elsewhere, Kutchi Tigers CC won against JACC by 20 runs, while Tornado Bees came out victorious against Avengers by 5 wickets.
