Over 150 badminton players are participating in the 3rd edition of the CFK beginning-of-year badminton tournament, which is taking place at CFK Badminton Academy.
The two-day tournament will be played in three categories that are junior, senior and corporate categories with its climax scheduled for the 19th of this month.
Teams like St Henry’s College Kitovu, Aghakan high school, Trinity primary school, Nabisunsa girls schools, Lohana academy, kibuli ss, City junior school are among others the teams that joined CFK Badminton academy for this year’s edition.
Fred Kirabo, the CEO of CFK Badminton Academy, revealed to Nnalubaale Sports that such tournaments are important since they use these tournaments to test themselves for the bigger badminton events.
“In February this year, we will have Uganda International and many other badminton events organised by the governing body, Uganda Badminton Association, so we want to check the progress of our players at the club,” Kirabo added.
This year’s tournament has registered over 150 players, the highest turnout since the first edition of 2021, when only 110 participants were registered.
Among the participants in this year’s edition is the youngster Devine Mwesigwa Kirabo, a player from CFK badminton.
Mwesigwa, who registered to play girls’ under-13, girls’ under-15, and women’s doubles in this tournament, says they are going to focus more on teaching other players the skills of badminton than on winning medals.
The CFK beginning-of-year badminton tournament was last held in 2023 and it’s a way of testing the progress of their players as many other badminton clubs resort to holiday camps to polish their players for the year’s tight schedule.
