Uganda didn’t play on Friday, but the Group C results at Namboole fell perfectly in their favor. Guinea held Algeria to a 1-1 draw, while Niger frustrated South Africa in a goalless stalemate, leaving the Cranes in control of the group.

Uganda leads with six points, one ahead of Algeria and South Africa. Guinea (4) and Niger (1) are out, meaning the final day is a three-way fight for two quarterfinal slots.

In the day’s opener, Ismaël Camara’s strike gave Guinea hope, but Soufiane Bayazid equalized late to keep Algeria alive. Guinea’s campaign ended there, while Algeria face Niger next in Kenya.

Later, South Africa threw everything at Niger but couldn’t score. VAR twice overturned penalty calls, and Bafana Bafana were left needing victory against Uganda to survive.

For Uganda, the task is clear, beat South Africa and seal top spot. A draw might still work if Algeria slips, but the Cranes won’t want to gamble.
