Cheptegei withdrawals from Great North Run Half Marathon

Uganda’s top long distance star Joshua Cheptegei will not be pairing with Jacob Kiplimo at the Great North Run Half marathon in England.

Cheptegei who has been nursing an injury pulled out of the Sunday race today morning.

“It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from Sunday’s Great North Run. I was really looking forward (to) competing in this historic race, but an injury won’t allow me to compete. I look forward to compete there in the future,” the world champion confirmed.

Kiplimo will now face tough opposition from Ethiopian star runners like; Kenenisa Bekele, and Selemon Barega among others as a lone soldier.

Cheptegei who could not take part in the just concluded Birmingham Common wealth Games due to an injury will have to wait for a while to return to action.

Cheptegei won a gold medal at the World Championships, while Kiplimo bagged two gold medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
