Joy Cheptoyek gave Uganda a bright start at the World Athletics Championships, finishing seventh in the womenโs 10,000m final with a time of 31:15.03.
She ran bravely alongside a strong field before Kenyaโs Beatrice Chebet broke away to win gold in 30:37.61. Italyโs Nadia Battocletti claimed silver, and Ethiopiaโs Gudaf Tsegay took bronze.
Cheptoyek was Ugandaโs only finisher in the race after Rebecca Chelangat and Sarah Chelangat dropped out before the end. Her top-ten place showed her steady rise on the world stage.
