Joy Cheptoyek gave Uganda a bright start at the World Athletics Championships, finishing seventh in the women’s 10,000m final with a time of 31:15.03.

She ran bravely alongside a strong field before Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet broke away to win gold in 30:37.61. Italy’s Nadia Battocletti claimed silver, and Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay took bronze.

Cheptoyek was Uganda’s only finisher in the race after Rebecca Chelangat and Sarah Chelangat dropped out before the end. Her top-ten place showed her steady rise on the world stage.
