The Walukuba Barbarians are making the trip to Lugogo to highlight what should be the game of the weekend as the Uganda Cup enters its third game week.
Forget the Barbarians of yore; this outfit looks like they have figured their things out and are primed to give the Heathens a run for their money.
The Barbarians were 95-00 winners against whooping boys Tooro Lions in round one of the Uganda Cup and enjoyed a bye in the second week.
Defending Champions, Platinum Credit Heathens, had a meagre outing against Kyambogo in the opening round, only scraping by to get the bonus point, before marshalling a 69-points-per-half masterclass against the hapless Tooro Lions to win 138-07.
It can potentially be the game of the weekend with the Barbarians playing in a different dimension and with Heathens not inspiring as much trust consistently.
It also can be done before halftime if the real Heathens stand up and choose to wipe the floor with their visitors. We’re hoping it’s the former.
The hope is that we shall not have to wake up to another statement from the clubs that call Legends home, cancelling or opting out of rugby for one reason or another.
If everything goes according to plan, the 2022 National 7s Champions, the Jinja Hippos, will be in town to play the Rhinos in another game of teams not so far apart.
After a not-so-successful 2023 campaign, the Hippos are looking to the Uganda Cup to salvage silverware and assert themselves as a trophy-winning side.
