The Gazelles have kicked off preparations for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, and Head Coach Nicholas Natuhereza is already setting a clear tone: stay focused, build steadily, and aim high.

After the first training session at Africa Bible Institute in Lubowa, Natuhereza struck a calm but confident note.

“Day one is in the books,” he said. “It was a light session. We didn’t want to overdo it, but I liked what I saw. We introduced some concepts we’ll keep building on.”

Only six players turned up for the opener, but the coach isn’t worried. With the tournament set for July 26 to August 3 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the team still has time to gel.

“We’ve been waiting for this,” he added. “I believe we’re mentally ready. Now we need to focus on developing players who can shoot and make free throws consistently.”

Assistant coach Ben Komakech is also on board, as the team prepares to ramp up intensity in the coming days with more players expected in camp.
