The Gazelles have kicked off preparations for the 2025 FIBA Womenโs AfroBasket, and Head Coach Nicholas Natuhereza is already setting a clear tone: stay focused, build steadily, and aim high.
After the first training session at Africa Bible Institute in Lubowa, Natuhereza struck a calm but confident note.
โDay one is in the books,โ he said. โIt was a light session. We didnโt want to overdo it, but I liked what I saw. We introduced some concepts weโll keep building on.โ
Only six players turned up for the opener, but the coach isnโt worried. With the tournament set for July 26 to August 3 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the team still has time to gel.
โWeโve been waiting for this,โ he added. โI believe weโre mentally ready. Now we need to focus on developing players who can shoot and make free throws consistently.โ
Assistant coach Ben Komakech is also on board, as the team prepares to ramp up intensity in the coming days with more players expected in camp.
