Home Athletics Commonwealth Games: Chesang painfully falls short in 10,000m race

Ugandan Stella Chesang finished fourth to miss out on the podium in the 10,000m race at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

In the Wednesday race, Chesang clocked 31:14.14, failing to defend the gold she won in 2018 at Gold Coast.

The race was won by Scottish Eilish McColgan who took gold in a games record time 30:48.60.

She was followed by a Kenyan duo of Irine Cheptai and Sheila Chepkirui Kiprotich who took home silver and bronze respectively.

Rachel Chebet, who was the other Ugandan in the race, clocked 32: 30.95 as she finished a distant 10th.

Uganda has so far won two medals in Birmingham, both gold medals, by Victor Kiplangat and Jacob Kiplimo in the marathon and the men’s 10,000m race, respectively.

The Pearl of Africa is also guaranteed at least one other medal, in boxing as Teddy Nakimuli made it to the semi-finals, with the least she can take being a bronze.
